Checklist for a Smooth Closing
(Buyers)

 

  • As soon as the offer is accepted, contact your attorney to make him/her aware of the contract.

UPON COMPLETION OF ATTORNEY REVIEW (3 DAYS)

  • Schedule home inspection (within 10 days)
  • Contact several moving companies for prices and dates.
  • Schedule oil tank inspection, if applicable.
  • Contact mortgage company and submit application.

10 DAYS FROM CONTRACT DATE

  • Contact an insurance company to obtain a homeowner's policy on your new home.
  • Resolve any outstanding home inspection issues.

30 DAYS PRIOR TO CLOSING

  • Schedule final utility meter readings for the day of closing (see Utility list on www.kimhaley.com).
  • Schedule a transfer or disconnection of your phone service.
  • Go to the post office and complete change of address form.
  • Cancel newspaper delivery and/or provide them with new address.
  • Sellers will provide you with the name of the garbage collector.
  • Confirm closing date with mortgage company.

2 DAYS PRIOR TO CLOSING

  • Discuss final closing cost figures with attorney.
  • Gather all pertinent paperwork.
  • Schedule final walk through.

CLOSING DAY

Please remember to bring the following to the closing:

  • Certified check for closing costs and residual down payment.
  • The seller will leave any instructional pamphlets for appliances, garage door openers and extra keys in the house.
